What’s your lineage? My mama calls me a box dog. That means I’m part boxer and part bully. :)  All I really know though is that I love to swim, play, and chew on my bones. Do you have one for me?
How old are you?  I think I’m 5.
Where do you hail from?  I was born in Fort Lauderdale.  Some nice people found me on the side of a road and brought me to the Broward Humane Society.  That’s where mama and I found each other!

What’s your most embarrassing moment?  Sometimes when I get real excited I like to spin in circles.  It’s real fun!  But when I get kinda tired, I sometimes fall on my butt. :(
Is there something that makes you shake-in-the-knees?  Stairs, when I’m sleepy.
What three words would your owner (aka ‘pet parent’, aka ‘human-pet’) use to describe you?  Happy, silly, laid back.
Do any other critters share your living space?  My bestfriend Lowell and I visit each other a lot.
What’s your superpower or what super power do you wish you had?  My mama says she thinks I can see ghosts.  I’m not sure what a ghosts is though.
What’s your favorite quote/motto?  “I love you!  Can I lick you?”

Happy St. Patty’s day, critters!! In honor of the “green” day, I asked one of my cousins to step in for Wooless Wednesday and since B-Bird (aka Beep) is green, she’s a purr-fect guest! Hereeeeee’s Beep….!

/*Beep!!*/ Hi, I’m B-Bird. I will be 18 years old on May 15. I do as I please now, guess it is my age. If I do not want to be bothered, you best leave me alone. I am a Senegal parrot from the Poicephalus family. I am also known as a pocket parrot, I just love to hide under things including climbing down your shirt or up your pants….

B-Bird - A Poicephalus Parrot

See? I'm a toughy!

What’s your favorite treat? Carrots and spaghetti. My family says my love of carrots gave me my spectacular coloring!

Do you have a fave pastime, besides doing as you please? Eating and headrubs.

How about your favorite toy? Empty bottles on the floor – this was brought about by my sister, Jami (Woo’s note: That’s *my* mommy!!). Jami would roll the bottle along the floor at me, I proceeded to run and tackle it! I also push it along the floor like the bottle was a soccer ball. It’s called Beak-Ball in the birdy world. I’m a world champ!

Wanna share some other fun facts with Woo-readers?

I get in trouble when I grab other co-birdies. Mom has to fuss at me a bit.

I don’t say too much… I mainly say Baby B-Bird, but my sister Cope, not Copo, (you get corrected when you call her that) says many things, she carries on a conversation with my mom all the time. I listen but then I get tired and take a nap. Cope does not shut up for anything.

When I was little and my sister Jami lived with me, she would puff bits of air on me… Yup, I do not like when you blow on me! I think I got a complex thinking I had fleas and ticks from Jami. She would laugh at me because I would fluff up so big and start spinning around trying to get them off!!

I think my mom wants to say a few things now about the care of me and all my birdie friends.

Beep is a very special part of our family, she lives in a big, green cage in our dining room with many toys that she can tear up or just snuggle with. I am very picky with my birds, I love them so much. I clean their cages every day and make them a dish of people food every morning consisting of fresh vegetables and fruit, spaghetti, rice, and chicken n’ rice is one of their faves (LOL!). The Poicephalus parrot is not for the first time bird owner. They are expensive and do require a more experienced handler as they can cause a nasty bite if you do not know how to read their actions. I just love all birds!!!

Thanks cousin B-Bird, and my grandmomma-woo for sharing today. Be sure y’all wear your green! Well, I guess Beep is covered already- no one is gonna be pinching her today!!

Puppy Kisses from the Amazing Woo

Welcome to the first Wooless Wednesday! Instead of featuring me, the Woo, I’m gonna share the spotlight with some of my critter cousins.

This week, meet Vayl. Vayl is a halfmoon Betta fish. My mom loves Betta fish because she says most people don’t give them the homes they deserve. So she makes sure at least some of them get great homes.

Vayl the halfmoon Betta fish

Meet Vayl - Star of the first Wooless Wednesday!

Like me, Vayl was a rescue. He was just a lil guy when mom got the call. Someone in our community had bought him for her kids, and placed Vayl and a goldfish in a tiny tank together. Well, Vayl killed the goldie (duh) and the mom and kids got mad at him. They were apparently going to flush him, but somehow a neighbor got a hold of him and brought called my mom.

He was swimming in mud or something when he got to our house. We couldn’t even see the poor fish. I think they dumped all sorts of gunk in his tank. Mom carefully started changing out cupfuls of water so he could adjust slowly. After the water was a bit clearer, she cupped him and got a new tank ready for him. Mom says all Bettas need at least 3 gallon tanks and at least one water change a week.

Vayl the halfmoon Betta fish flareing

This is Vayl acting like a tough guy.

She put real plants in the tank so Vayl’s fins and scales wouldn’t get scratched up further. Then she added a heater, a filter – which are both musts for Bettas; and a light.

Bettas need warm water (and Goldfish, by the way, are cold water fish who need a minimum of 10 gallons per fish, NOT a bowl), and some water flow in their tanks to keep them happy and healthy. The live plants help since they make the water cleaner for fishies.

When Vayl moved in his new digs, he looked happier immediately. Within 2 days he was wiggling for food like the rest of our fish. I LOVE watching the fish tanks. Mom keeps them all down at my height and I’ll sit there for an hour watching the Bettas swim. It’s like a great reality TV show!
